Elizabeth Hicks is a family law partner specialising in all areas of relationship breakdown. She has been a specialist in family law since 1995. Elizabeth currently heads a team of 6 in London ranging from an experienced paralegal to another partner. Elizabeth is an active member of Resolution - a group of 5,400 family lawyers accross England and Wales who subscribe to a volutary code of practice to try and resolve the financial and other effects of a separation or divorce in the most amicable, non confrontational and cost effective way possible and by putting any children's interests first. The work Elizabeth carries out can be summarised as follows:

• acting for husbands/wives, civil partners and cohabitants - usually from a City or other professional background or their spouses/partners/cohabitants
• advising on the various options and choices available when a relationship ends and what would be best having heard all the circumstances of the particular case
• dealing with the actual process of divorce/dissolution of a civil partnership to include considering whether a divorce can and should proceed in England and Wales or another country.
• resolving the financial aspects of a separation/divorce by obtaining and making full and frank discsloure of the financial assets, liabilities, income and expenses of the couple and then trying to negotiate a reasonable financial order bearing in mind the current case law. As and when necessary applying to court for a financial order and advising on the process, what it involves, the impact of the current case law on a case and representing the person throughout the proceedings until a financial order is made by the court.
• obtaining freezing orders to stop the spouse/civil partner from disposing of assets and where necessary liaisng with foreign lawyers to obtain mirror orders in other countries
• acting for parents in disputes relating to where a child should live, the contact they have with the other parent, where they go to school, moving to and living in another country
• obtaining injunctions to stop someone from threatening or being violent

Elizabeth is a trained collaborative lawyer - a relatively new way of resolving family disputes without going to court. This involves the couple and both their lawyers sitting in a number of meetings, making disclosure in the meetings, negotiating in the meetings and reaching agreement. If no agreement can be reached then the couple have to sack their lawyers and instruct new lawyers to go to court.

Elizabeth is accredited as a specialist family lawyer by the Law Society. She regularly writes articles and features in the press on all aspects of family law.
