I've been invited to some BNI meetings over the years but felt that my company would not benefit by becoming a member. Imagine my surprise when I attended my first meeting of BNI ELITE (at the invitation of Danny Fealy) and was passed two referrals by members. I decided to attend again in case it was beginners luck and received a further two referrals. I joined up and now wouldn't miss my Wednesday mornings for anything.
As well as receiving referrals other benefits I've noticed include:
Meeting a wide range of professional business people with everyone genuinely trying to help each other
Great training in how to network and get and give referrals
An excellent forum in which to gain experience in public speaking and honing and selling your firm's Unique Selling Point
Sharing problems and the little victories, which are all part of business in these difficult times, with like minded business people
However the main thing I can take away from the BNI Elite group is that there are 25 people in the room who are willing to refer my business to their clients and friends as word of mouth is still the best method of advertising  I believe.
