An ex-colleague came back from his BNI meeting and said "I'm leaving the firm and BNI, so do you want to take my seat and see out my membership?". No sooner had he said it, I was there! It was an opportunity I couldn't miss. It's so difficult to get into BNI as an IFA.
BNI has worked wonders on two fronts.
As with so many other self employed IFAs, where it's traditionally been a cottage industry, it is rare to get the opportunity to work as a team. Having been part of the Leadership Team, including twice as Chapter Director twice, has meant I've learnt one or two things about myself, both good and bad. Significantly, I have been able to pick up some tremendously important skills to help aid my personal development and build a team around my own business.
The main reason I'm at BNI is for the new business. For the last 7/8 years, BNI has provided a reliable and steady stream of valuable income. Tried and tested, it's a formula that works.
