"When the going gets tough, the tough get going" - Billy Ocean

20 January 2010

By Paul White

Because the Chapter Director, Elizabeth Hicks of Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, was unable to make this morning's meeting, the whole meeting was a damp squib.
WRONG!!!! Twenty-seven referrals were generated, which may well be a record. I would have to check with the Father Of The Chapter, Mel Kenny of IFA Radcliffe & Newlands, who was a Founder Member in 1802.
Super Sue Terpilowski of Image Line Communications Ltd took over the role of "Directeuse" with great aplomb, for which we all thank her.
Darryl Buchanan of BNI dropped in to the meeting to check up that the Chapter was following the guidelines laid down by the Organisation and he spoke warmly of the great strides that we have made over the last six months, where membership has doubled.
BTW, Darryl is a Kiwi, which the sensible Networker will be quick to establish. Apparently, Kiwi and Aussies pronounce "chips" in different ways, which is a good ice-breaker.
The normal 10 minute presentation of a Chapter Member's individual business was replaced with Shireen and Malcolm Twittering. Put another way, this dynamic duo demonstrated how Social Networking can increase business for you, by maintaining a web presence at very little cost.
Fiona Naysmith of Recruitment Consultants Smith & Cameron did a wonderful job in presenting the three-minute educational slot and we look forward to her ten minute presentation in the next few weeks.
We had a Visitor this week and it wasn't even Visitors' Day! Top marks to Darryl for bringing her along. Lead from the front, that's what I say.
The said Visitors' Day is set for next week and preparations are well in hand, carrying a focus upon enlarging the Health & Efficiency Power Circle. Sorry, I dimly remember that being the title of a Magazine. I mean the "Health & Well-being" sub-group. I myself intend to invite a Surveyor and some Gaming Table operators, but I'm sure that there is a health-related angle in there somewhere.
Vivat, Crescat, Floreat!
